The 40th annual Caribana Festival will take place in Toronto from July 10th through August 12th, 2007. In celebration of its 40th anniversary, the festival has been expanded and updated from a two-week to a five-week festival that includes many new initiatives.
As a part of the 40th Anniversary spectacular, there will be a “Caribana Star Competition;” where the winner will sing their song in its entirety at the Caribana IMAGINE Concert, opening for our very own Destra Garcia, Sean Paul, and, Ne-Yo on Sunday August 5th, 2007, the Molson Amphitheatre, Toronto, Ontario.
The winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000 plus more.
Interested persons can upload their original song to www.caribanafestival.com, where visitors to the site may vote online for their chioce. The top 5 competitors, based on average customer ratings, will advance to the semi-finals, where a panel of judges will select the winner on August 1st, 2007.
Entrants to the Contest must be 16 years of age or above. If not over the age they must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian.
The Song must incorporate as much of the following as possible: Celebrate Toronto, Multiculturalism, Caribana, Cultural Arts, and celebrate the 40 Anniversary of Caribana. During the Finals, each contestant will be allowed to sing three minutes of his or her selected song (music must be on CD or selected from the DJ's list and available thirty minutes before performance).
